A man was hit and killed Monday morning on southbound Highway 101 in San Jose after he jumped from an overpass onto the freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred on the freeway's southbound lanes near Oakland Road just before 5 a.m., the CHP said.

Preliminary investigation found that the pedestrian had jumped from the Oakland Road overpass onto the freeway before he was hit by at least one vehicle, which remained at the scene, the CHP said.
All southbound lanes were shut down for a time as officers investigated.
